From Lincoln to Trump

What happened to the Grand Old Party? Truth be told, answering that question is the primary reason I launched this blog.

The Republican Party has undergone a transformation in the past half century. As recently as the mid-1960s, when the GOP was still the party of Lincoln, a higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats in both the House and the Senate voted in favor of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. The party looks vastly different today and not only regarding civil rights.  As a headline the day after impeachment put it, the undisputed leader of the GOP offers “Charity Toward None, Malice Toward All.” And the party faithful fall in line.

AgendaTwentyTwenty will explore the history of the party’s transformation (which began many years before Trump’s ride down the escalator), and the consequences for our country.
